Our Story

How it all started...

Woodland Park Baptist Church began in 1945 with a humble yet bold vision: to establish a gospel-centered community in the Woodland Park are of Hammond where families could anchor their lives in God’s Word. What started as a small, faithful gathering of believers with deep roots alongside First Baptist Church of Hammond quickly became a pillar of faith in Tangipahoa Parish. Through decades of ministry, fellowship, and steady growth, those early years laid the groundwork for a church defined by biblical truth, warm community, and a heart for local outreach.

Expanding the vision...

As our church family continued to expand, our leaders recognized a unique opportunity to broaden our reach and serve the Northshore in a bigger way. Driven by a clear vision to place Woodland Park at the literal and spiritual heart of the region, the church made the strategic move to our current location near the intersection of Interstate 12 and Interstate 55.
Being situated at this major crossroads was no accident—it was a intentional step of faith to ensure our campus was easily accessible to everyone traveling through or calling Hammond home. Over the years, this location has allowed us to serve not only as a weekly gathering place for our local community, but as a central hub for regional outreach and disaster relief when our neighbors need us most.

Where we are headed...

One Church. Every Generation. One Mission.
Today, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Kevin Hess, Woodland Park Baptist Church is stepping confidently into its next chapter. We are united around a clear and urgent calling: to be one church, spanning every generation, focused on one mission.
In a world searching for hope, our mission remains focused: bridging the gap between a holy God and a community that needs Him. We believe that Jesus Christ is the bridge, and as His church, we are dedicated to helping people of all ages and backgrounds discover His grace, grow in their faith, and live out their God-given purpose.
